SDBNA Scholarships

Guidelines for Scholarship Applicant

1. Applicant must be a member in good standing in SDBNA, and be currently enrolled in an LVN, RN or graduate nursing program, with at least one semester or quarter remaining.

2. Applicant must demonstrate a need for financial assistance (see attached).

3. Applicant must maintain a grade point average of "C" or better.

4. Send a letter of recommendation from two of the three listed below: a. Dean or Nursing Director, counselor, or instructor b. Minister or religious leader (i.e., Priest, Rabbi, Iman, Pastor, etc.) c. Individual who is knowledgeable about applicant's personal and professional character (not a family member).

5. A high school (if this is the 1st semester/quarter in nursing school) or nursing school transcript must accompany the application (a copy is acceptable).

6. A recent photograph MUST accompany the application.

7. There are no restrictions as to the number of times an individual may apply for or receive a scholarship.

8. All scholarship applicants must be a member-in-good standing with the San Diego Black Nurses Association, Inc. (click here for membership application)

9. Applicants must submit a written essay (see attached).

10. Guidelines for submission of requested information will be strictly adhered to.

Scholarships are awarded annually. Applications must be postmarked by January 16, 2008. Absolutely no applications will be accepted after the deadline. Applications should be mailed to the following address:
