On behalf of the San Diego Black Nurses Association, Inc. we welcome
you. We are so delighted that you chose to visit our website today!
The San Diego Black Nurses Association, Inc. (SDBNA) is a
professional group of Registered Nurses (RNs) and Licensed Vocational
Nurses (LVNs). For the past 30 years our purpose has been to
improve the health care outcomes of African Americans and the
underserved in the community of San Diego. Our stated mission is to
decrease health disparities through advocacy, education and health
promotion.
SDBNA has served the community by sponsoring health education classes
and workshops. At community health fairs, we have screened hundreds of
people for hypertension, diabetes and prostate cancer. We bring
immunization services into local churches and senior centers. SDBNA
supports our membership by providing continuing education classes for
licensing credits. We collaborate with other local non-profit
organizations that promote health care and prevention of disease
Since 1976, SDBNA has awarded scholarships to students pursuing
nursing careers. Along with this financial support, we mentor and
welcome into our organization nursing students from all nursing
disciplines-- from LVNs to students pursuing their doctorate degrees.
Each year we have a special event to support our scholarship efforts.
This year seven recipients received scholarships valued at close to
$8,000.
SDBNA would like to assist more students interested in nursing to
ensure a constant procession of Blacks and other minorities in the
field. We invite all interested RNs, LVNs and students in accredited
nursing programs to come to our monthly meetings.
We meet the second Saturday of the month (Jan-June; Sept-Dec) at
Encanto Southern Baptist Church from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00a.m. Click
