Nurse of the Year (2008)

SYVERA HARDY, RN

I joined the San Diego Black Nurses Association in 1989 with good intentions of being active and the treasurer for this association. I have been a very active member since then, serving as Treasurer from August 1990 to January 1999, Corresponding Secretary, Vice President, President and presently, Public Relations Chair. I have served on many committees of the association–some are annual events, nominating, annual retreat, picnic, hospitality, recruitment, by-laws, and community health. I was previously honored with the Nurse of the Year Award in 1993.

I was employed for 26 years as a Registered Nurse for the San Diego County Department of Health and Human Services In Communicable Disease Control., and retired in November 2002.

Being honored with the Nurse of the Year Award again in 2008 is humbling, and I am grateful for this prestigious acknowledgment.
